Overview
Karamba’s location on the southern tip of Zanzibar means it is able to capture some of the finest sunrise and sunset scenes on the Island. It is also one of the best places to stay if you would like to experience swimming with dolphins.
There is a beautiful coral reef located nearby (just a short boat ride away) that offers some of the best snorkelling and diving possible in Zanzibar.
Accommodation
The lodge has 14 sea side rooms all facing the blue ocean, surrounded by the green of tropical gardens
All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with hot water, wardrobe, double or twin beds with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, kettle, and a spacious veranda. Some rooms are big enough for extra beds, perfect for families. The rooms have all been individually designed to offer style, comfort and personality.

Facilities
The restaurant at Karamba offers local and international cuisine, with an emphasis on Mediterranean dishes, fish and seafood specialities. There is even the Japanese favourite of Sushi and Sashimi plus a wide range of vegetarian dishes.
The menu is “à la carte” and very varied with plenty of choice. The food is all freshly prepared, very reasonably priced and very good indeed.
The bar offers an extensive variety of cocktails, selected wines and spirits, fresh juice, smoothies and milkshakes.
The chill out area offers an accurate ambience, featuring calm music and relaxing sunset views.
Another great facility offered at Karamba is massage and Yoga. Paul who runs this side of the operation is an excellent teacher and he’s truly dedicated to promotion of the yogic lifestyle. The sessions are offered free of charge and take place right on the beach overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Other facilities at Karamba include Snorkelling and diving at the nearby reef, water skiing, dhow craft and engine boat sailing, bicycle hire, wireless internet, recreation area with T.V, library and pool table plus a small children’s playground, laundry and room service.
Our Suggestion.
Karamba Resort is truly delightful and a perfect place to stay if you are looking for rest and relaxation. The sea swimming is fantastic at Karamba during most tides, which is a great advantage. The yoga is a great touch, and the service fantastic.
Karamba offers outstanding value for money and definitely deserves the excellent reviews it regularly receives.
Karamba is a great little resort in a perfect location for swimming with the local Bottlenose Dolphins in Menai Bay. The food here is outstanding for such a competitively priced resort, and certainly provides the most variety of any resort in Zanzibar! All the vegetables used come from their own organic garden, they bake their own bread, and there is an excellent range of vegetarian options reflecting the principles of traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
They also offer very competitively priced massage treatments and yoga classes, so combined with the peaceful location this makes an excellent health retreat for rest and relaxation.
The excellent value for money at Karamba certainly reflects the fact that facilities and rooms here are more basic than other resorts in Zanzibar, but the new management and friendly staff will ensure that your stay here is comfortable and that you have everything you need for a wonderful holiday.
Top Tip: Combine a stay at Karamba with a few days somewhere on the East Coast to make the most of your time in Zanzibar.
