Overview
Matemwe Beach Village is Located amid the palm trees, Matemwe Beach Village is a fairly large yet secluded guesthouse located beside a long stretch of classic palm-lined, white sand beach on the North East coast of Zanzibar Island. Just off-shore from the guesthouse is the world-famous Mnemba Atoll, whose circling reef has some of the best diving in East Africa.
Along the beach from the resort are palm-thatched villages, where friendly local people live a traditional life dominated by fishing.
Accommodation
The Matemwe Beach Village resort houses a total of 23 rooms, 6 of which are suite rooms.
Standard Rooms
Set back a little from the beach for privacy. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with hot water and fans.
The newly refubished rooms (left) are clean, crisp and comfortable.
Suites
These are primarily designed for couples, having one large bed but there is also single bed under the stairs and a barazza bed for small children. All rooms are colourfully decorated and have an upstairs veranda area with lounging chairs.
Asali Suite
This suite is designed with honeymooners in mind. It has one double bed and is separate from the rest of the lodge. It houses its own plunge pool and comes complete with your own dedicated chef and waitress to cater for your every need.
Facilities
Facilities at Matemwe Beach Village are mostly simple yet delightful. The main area houses a relaxing open-sided space looking onto the beach, which serves as the lounge, bar and restaurant.
The lounge area is slightly raised and is decorated by an array of floor cushions and low tables. There are books and games for the benefit of guests providing gentle entertainment when taking a break from the beach and sun. The restaurant serves a small but exotic selection of local foods to tantalise the taste buds of even a hardened food critic.
On the beach there are wooden seating areas, which are provided as somewhere to relax for an afternoon soaking up the sun and tropical atmosphere.
The recently built swimming pool gives the extra touch for a luxury experience. Acting as a permanent sun deck, the pool offers a place to swim when the tide is at its lowest, and it provides an environment for novice divers to learn the basics of scuba diving before taking on the reef.
Other activities
Situated right next to the Mnemba Atoll, Matemwe Beach Village offers the perfect residency for those wishing to see the world famous circular coral reef. The resort boasts a full 5 star IDC PADI dive school at the lodge, where it is able to offer the full range of PADI certificate courses, as well as try dives and snorkeling trips for non-divers.

The quality of the accommodation at Matemwe Beach Village varies greatly, and some of the standard rooms are quite basic. However friendly relaxed staff, great food and tasteful decoration make this guesthouse a very welcoming and relaxing place to stay.
